We Work For You, Not The Insurer

Independent Support When The Insurer Appoints A Loss Adjuster

When your insurer appoints a loss adjuster, it can be difficult to know whether their assessment fully reflects your position. However, ILA is different. Policyholders appoint us to provide an independent insurance claim review, check the damage, assess the evidence, consider the policy wording and help you understand what should happen next.

This matters because property insurance claims often involve technical detail, repair costs, reinstatement decisions, insurer communication and negotiation. With ILA, you have policyholder-focused claim support from a team experienced in loss adjusting, claim preparation and settlement review.

Loss Adjuster Or Loss Assessor: Which Do You Need?

An insurer often appoints a loss adjuster to inspect damage, review the claim and assess what may be payable under the policy. In contrast, a policyholder usually appoints a loss assessor to prepare, present and negotiate the claim on their behalf.

ILA works for policyholders. We provide the practical support many people expect from a loss assessor, with the technical knowledge, insurance claim representation and professional standards of independent loss adjusters. Our loss adjusting experience helps you understand the damage, the evidence, the policy position and the settlement figures being discussed.

With ILA, the key point is simple: we are not appointed by your insurer. We work on your side of the claim.

The Benefits of Choosing an Independent Loss Adjuster

When you choose ILA, you are choosing a different way of handling a claim. It is not about promises or slogans; instead, it is about steady, experienced claim handling support when things feel uncertain. And while every claim is different, these are the benefits our clients tend to notice most:

  1. Unbiased Support: Independent loss adjusters do not work to protect an insurer’s position. Because of that independence, we approach your claim with a clear focus on fair, professional claims management.
  2. Policy and Evidence Review: Our loss adjusters spend their time inside policy wording, evidence, repair costs and settlement figures, helping identify points that can be missed if no one is checking the detail.
  3. Claim Preparation and Negotiation: Once our loss assessors step in, we help prepare the claim, handle insurer communications, organise claim documentation and support negotiation where needed.
  4. Pursuing A Fair Settlement: Our loss assessors review the evidence, policy wording, and settlement figures to ensure the claim remains aligned with what the policy allows and what the damage supports.

Frequently Asked Questions

When your insurer appoints someone, they usually inspect the damage, consider policy cover and report back to the insurer. Many insurer-appointed Loss Adjusters work within the insurer’s claims process, so it is important that you understand what is being assessed and why. ILA can review the position from the policyholder’s side and help you respond with clearer evidence. You can also read more about the insurance claim process.

Yes. You can appoint your own independent support to help with a property insurance claim. ILA works for policyholders, not insurers. Therefore, the focus is on your damage, your evidence and the settlement being considered. This can be especially useful when a claim is delayed, disputed, rejected or difficult to understand. To speak to the team, you can request a callback.

Loss Adjusters are often appointed by insurers to inspect damage and assess what may be payable under the policy. Loss Assessors or Independent Loss Adjusters are usually appointed by policyholders to prepare, present and negotiate the claim. The main difference is who they are acting for, which is why the wording can be confusing when a claim is already stressful. This guide explains more about insurance loss adjusters and independent claim support.

Yes. A Loss Assessor usually works for the person making the claim, while a Loss Adjuster is often instructed by the insurer. The practical difference is who they represent. If you are unsure where you stand, ILA can explain the role of each party and help you decide whether independent support is needed.

Ask the insurer to confirm the reason for rejecting the claim in writing and identify the policy wording, evidence or exclusion relied upon. Check whether the decision addresses all the information you supplied and whether further evidence may change the position.

You may also be able to make a formal complaint and, depending on eligibility and applicable time limits, refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service. ILA can review the rejection reason, policy wording and available evidence before you decide what to do next.

Storm damage claims often turn on cause, timing and condition. For example, useful evidence can include photos taken soon after the event, videos, weather records, roofer or contractor comments, repair estimates and any maintenance history for the affected area.

A low settlement offer should be checked against the actual repair route, not just the headline figure. In particular, look at what has been allowed for, what has been left out, whether VAT, drying, strip-out, reinstatement, access costs or professional fees are included, and whether the offer matches the policy terms.

ILA can review the offer with you and help identify where the calculation may need to be challenged or supported with better evidence. Read more about what to do if your insurance settlement offer is too low.

Yes. ILA can help with existing claims that have stalled, been rejected, become disputed or resulted in an offer you are unsure about. Loss Assessors can help after a claim has already become difficult. A Loss Assessor can review the file, identify what is missing and help you decide the next sensible step. If your claim is already underway, this page explains how ILA may help with an existing insurance claim.

ILA’s general fee is 10% plus VAT of the overall settlement amount. Alternatively, if you appoint ILA’s recommended contractors to carry out the agreed reinstatement works, our fee is generally covered through that contractor route. Every claim is different, so the fee position will be explained clearly before you decide how to proceed. Loss Adjusters and Loss Assessors may structure fees differently, so a Loss Assessor fee should always be checked before work begins.
